Shares of Moving iMage Technologies, Inc. (MITQ - Free Report) have declined 6.7% since the company reported its earnings for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. This compares with the S&P 500 Index’s 1.2% decline over the same period. Over the past month, MITQ shares have fallen 1.7%, while the S&P 500 has decreased 0.1%.

MiT incurred a fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 net loss of 3 cents per share, wider than a loss of 2 cents per share a year earlier.

Net sales of $4.6 million denoted a 22.7% decline from $5.9 million in the year-ago quarter. The company attributed the decline mainly to customers shifting project timing by one or more quarters.

Net loss widened to $0.3 million rom $0.2 million a year earlier. Gross profit declined 16% to $1 million from $1.2 million, reflecting lower sales and a change in the mix of products and models delivered.

MiT’s Margin and Expense Trends

Despite lower quarterly revenues, gross margin improved to 22.2% from 20.4% in the prior-year quarter, driven by the company's focus on higher-margin opportunities and changes in revenue mix. Operating expenses decreased 5.3% to $1.3 million from $1.4 million. The operating loss, however, widened to $0.3 million from $0.2 million as the sales decline outweighed expense reductions.

DCS cinema loudspeaker sales totaled approximately $0.4 million in the fourth quarter, compared with $0.5 million in the third quarter and $0.02 million in the second quarter following the acquisition. Management said sequential DCS sales were affected partly by product-availability constraints associated with onboarding, production and logistics efforts. DCS product backlog stood at roughly $0.5 million at the time of the earnings update.

Management Highlights Cinema Investment Pipeline

Management pointed to stronger box-office trends and improving theater attendance as supportive of exhibitors' willingness to invest in premium large-format auditoriums, immersive audio, laser projection and other upgrades. MiT said its domestic pipeline includes refurbishments covering 16 screens at two locations for a repeat customer and a separate multifaceted project in the Bay Area. The company also cited discussions involving renovations and installations for several Northeast arts organizations.

The company ended fiscal 2026 with approximately $4 million of working capital, including net cash of $3.2 million, and no debt. Management said its emphasis remains on margin discipline, expense control and moving the business toward profitability and positive cash flow.

Project Timing Weighs on Headline Results

The principal pressure on fourth-quarter results came from delays in customer projects, particularly larger engagements whose timing can materially affect quarterly revenues. Management indicated that some projects were moved into future periods rather than canceled. Lower project activity increased the quarterly loss despite improved gross margin and reduced operating expenses.

Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Update

As of June 30, 2026, MiT had cash of $3.2 million, down from $5.7 million at June 30, 2025.

Total assets fell to $8.5 million from $10.9 million.

Stockholders’ equity stood at $4.6 million compared with $4.9 million a year earlier.

For fiscal 2026, MiT used $2.5 million of cash in operating activities, compared with $0.4 million of cash generated from operations in fiscal 2025.

Fiscal 2026 Update

For fiscal 2026, revenues declined 4.6% to $17.3 million from $18.2 million as reduced customer project activity more than offset an $0.9 million contribution from DCS. Gross profit increased 10% to $5 million, while gross margin expanded to 29.1% from 25.2%.

Consequently, the full-year net loss narrowed to $0.3 million, or 3 cents per share, from $1 million, or 10 cents per share, in fiscal 2025.

MiT Provides Fiscal 2027 Outlook

MiT expects first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenues of approximately $4.5 million, with several larger contracts scheduled for later in the year. Management expects the 16-screen refurbishment program and Bay Area project to contribute primarily to second- and third-quarter results. For the full fiscal year, the company expressed optimism about achieving top-line growth and profitability.

Other Developments

The company continued integrating the DCS cinema loudspeaker business acquired in the second quarter of fiscal 2026. DCS products had been shipped to more than 22 countries as of Sept. 28, 2026, broadening MiT's international presence and providing a platform to pursue additional overseas customer opportunities.
